I have recently sent in my slick mags for the SB update.
Could anyone offer tips and ideas for the install and timming setup once I get them back.
Any info would be helpfull.
Thanks,

I assume you have the 2004-2008 mags right? you are doing service bulletins SB2-08A and SB3-08A, dated July 1, 2008 and September 11, 2008.
I don’t know of one more recent than that.. which is why I am asking.

Thane,

I may have the procedure but will have to look, I retimed mine a few months ago. Requires a timing box that hooks to the P leads to get both mags as close to each other as possible. Any idea on the cost of doing the mod to the mags? I’m coming up on that time as well.

Rick

I will be down in your neck of the woods, if you pull the mags I will be glad to help you reinstall them and get them timed correctly. Being a old a&p it is a very simple process.

Just let me know shoot me a e-mail off list and we can go from there.

I will be flying into Henderson and can bring my buzz box and slick mag install timing pin with me.

Best to get an A&P to talk you through the first time. Not hard, but
if you don't have the mag timing box and know a couple key steps, you
won't get it right. Be sure the A&P is familiar with Slick mags, as
the install is different from Bendix mags.

Yea, if they are under 100 hrs., then it is $75.00, each. However, if they find any other issues, then the price goes up.
Mine were working fine but the key is to do them before the 100 hrs. Also they said they would turn them in 2 days.

I second what Kelly McMullen said. Spend what you need for the 1/2-3/4 hrs. that your local A&P will spend doing it right. Watch him carefully or better yet video it for the next time. I had mine done yesterday to double check them. Apparently, after 50-100 hrs the timing can change a bit. Mine were dead on (no change).

Had an expert (Norm my hangar bud) help, all in all it's very simple and a
bit prehistoric, like using the joint line of the case to establish the
timing, it was fun and I can tell ya, my mags after 50 hours were only off a
few degrees from each other, once they were right in sync it made a HUGE
difference on how well the engine started.
