I've started putting my POH together and I saw that there seems to be a small range of recommended approach speeds. Most seem to be on the 65-70 kias while some are on the higher end of 75-80 kias.

Anyone care to shed some light on your approach (pun intended).

G'day cjay,

Base (at) 85, Final (at) 75 over the fence (at) 70 (kias) is typical for me. Short fields are about 5 kias slower (but beware the sink rate).

Cheers,

Below 70 and above 68 has treated me well for the first 100 hours. Very
easy to land this plane only feeling the mains spinning in their pants.
Stick in your crotch till all authority is lost and down the nose
touches. End a flight with a landing like that and the first time PAX
think you are Chuck Yeager. I am going to try to nudge my over the
fence speeds down 1-2 knots now to reduce run out. The Hartzell BA prop
generates a fair amount of thrust at idle.
YMMV,
Robin

I shoot for about 80 knots to lower the flaps approaching base and then
75ish knots base and final bleeding down to 658-70 over the threshold. Too
fast and this thing will float big time, too slow and the speed will drop
quickly and surprise you if you don't carry some power end game.

FWIW I like to be a little on the slower side with some power as it seems to
make the flare and smooth touchdown more predictable. The times I've been
most surprised are being below 70, idle power and need to make a slightly
aggressive flare due to winds, etc. I'm amazed and the energy bleed when
just above stall in this thing.

I suspect you'll get a range of answers and with everyone having an equally
diverse range of experience and techniques I recommend you try several
options and see what you are comfortable with.

If I am light (one or two people and short runway), 65 to 70 results in nice approach with very short float and rollout.  If I have a full load and longer runway (Usually with fast traffic), I will use 75 - 80.

I second this. Keeping speeds up a little when heavy is important, especially if you have a long runway. If you cross the fence much over 70 otherwise you will float a ways. It usually sets down just under 60.

90 downwind 80 base 70 final in knots that is I found controlling the
decent and flare with the throttle using the AOA is very cool takes a
bit of learning the technique but when the Mains just start spinning
like Robin says and holding off the nose till the tail stops flying is
the bomb.
Especially when the tower says nice landing I also use full flaps
unless a strong xwind, even then this is the easiest plane ever in a
xwind when using the methods I was taught and read about The rudder is
very good and has plenty of authority

Across the numbers between 65-70. But don't underestimate the part about carrying a little power into the flare, blowing some extra air over the elevator has a BIG effect on how this thing lands. Took me a while to figure that out.

Well, this may be the only flying characteristics carried over from the
Maule... that is, a little power makes the flare work on a slow approach
and the best approach speed is around 65 (mph). I'm so looking forward
to it.
