Scott,
I would be willing to bet that your problem is sticking throttle cables as the guys have mentioned. I too had that problem at mid range rpms so I replaced the throttle cables and that did the trick.I used the cables with the Teflon center. If one cable hangs up just a little you will have one side of the engine out of sync with the other until you pass thru that range. Remember this engine is actually two engines with a single crankshaft. Each side is powered by its own carb.
Item number two is fuel. Make sure you have fresh fuel. Old fuel has caused me a great amount of havoc. I mean fuel over three weeks old! I am now using premium auto fuel in my engine.(although not required in the 912UL), MarineStabil, and even Lucas brand octane booster (if I don't burn the fuel in about 3-4 weeks) are also added. This seems to have solved my occasional dieseling on engine shutdown problem I was having.
These engines can be frustrating as hell. I have worked on mine more than all the Lyc/Cont engines put together and that is a lot !
I hate to be an old saw on this but you could give Ronnie Smith a call at Mississippi Light Sport Aircraft. I think he has worked on these engines since they were invented! He sure saved my butt when I was having problems ! (which I am sure I will continue to have)
Hang in there you will eventually get it!
