Hello Chuck.
The important part is to make the gauge(s) accurate (as possible) when they mark "empty"...
What ever position the needle is in full, there is no big problem, given that we are going to estimate the time/distance we can travel with the galons (or liters) we put in the tank(s).
In fact I am sure that any of the electric fuel gauges, are "life dependable".
Only the simple J-3 header type (cork/rod) or the wings type one with a clear hose on the side can be dependable...
and neither of this can be installed in the wings of the 601 XL...

I have the same problem with this sender/gauge combo. Around 7/8 is as far as the needle will go. I bench tested as well. I have decided to scrap the gauges and use the Dynon glass panel which can be calabrated.
