Engine power is a function of many things, no need to name them all except to point out that engine output never stays the same. Even engines with computer controlled mixture, ignition timing, and variable valve timing degrade over time. Our Huosai and M-14 engines seldom produce what they are capable of due to tuning, carbon accumulation, and atmospheric differences.

The stock M-14P output is specified as a range of power. The nominal 360HP is towards the bottom of that range, AT TIME OF OVERHAUL. MORE power is possible as the result of both what we might call "tuning" and what Gear Heads call Tuning. "Tuners", as they are called, take a broad approach to tweeking out the horsepower that a given engine may yield.

Even so, power generated is not power delivered. Propeller and gearbox losses erode the thrust generated. Then there is heat, and aerodynamic drag. One well known Tuner like Barrett Precision Engines goes to such lengths as to micro-polish the gears in the prop re-drive to reduce friction, lower heat and deliver more power.

Without paying attention to tuning details, bolt-on horsepower may not be what is advertised for your engine.
