Hi Guys,

Having flown a few hours now, I find that, as expected, with full flap deployed the elevator trim “bottoms out” before balanced trim is available.

I had a look at the LAA (UK) solution but found that my elevator trim tab is already at max downward travel and butts up against the elevator. Changing the tab horn would not make any difference to the travel available.

I have an O-200 fitted and expect there is a little more weight up front than a Jab or similar.

What have others done? I am thinking of adding a tab to the existing trim tab to increase its size, therefore providing more effect on the elevator.

Cheers

Peter

quite a hassle but you could reset the angle of incidence of the horizontal stabiliser...j

Peter:

A little bit of info from an experience I had. Granted this is not a
Zenith aircraft (RV-6).
Check the deployment of the flaps. Make sure they go DOWN and UP
equally. What I found was one flap deployed more than the other and a
small roll was induced.
Also had the same problem when the flaps were full UP.
Next thought: With the flaps deployed you may be getting BLANKETING of
the Horz Stab which makes the trim less or ineffective.
DOUBLE Check the amount of deployment. More is NOT always better.

Peter, I echo Scotsman's comment on possibly re-pitching the H-stab. But first, in cruise flight, do you have a significant trim tab deflection?? I did. I re-pitched the leading edge down until the trim tab was neutral in cruise and it gave me more trim authority with flaps full down.

Good luck,

Dave G.

Thanks Guys,

I have the full trim tab but will add a tab to it and see how it goes. I
have full authority everywhere else except full flap on finals.

Cheers

Peter

with full flaps the trim will max out, and you will have to pull stick back to full Flp landing speed. All 601xl are that way (if built to specs) even the factory one. Its the design. not a bad idea either given that if you are at close to stall all you have to do is let the stick go to release from the pitch.

The UK xls from CZAW kits would trim out perfectly with full flap. The UK xls are all fitted with larger elevator trim tabs.

Following the modifications, the spring assist between flaps and elevators had to be removed. Now even with the larger tabs they do not trim out with full flap, beyond ab out half flap some back pressure is required.

The only good thing is that pitch stability in the cruise is improved with the spring assist removed.

So an enlarged trim tab may not be the answer (unless significantly larger than the UK ones).
