Hello,



I have aerosportproducts overhead console and plan to install swivel LED lights that look like or similar the swivel vents.

Does anyone know where I can find those? 

I am aware of Steins LED swivel light but thats not the type that I mean.



Second question I try to find steel loop clamps  like MS21-333 which are used on my TMX-540 engine to hold the ignition cables. So far I only found aluminum once at Spruce.

Here is my Aerosport overhead.  I am installing two Aveoflash Eyebeams that can turn red or white by touch and also has intensity.  I made the angled piece by cutting the aluminum and welding a strip in then filling it in with fiberglass.  The Eyebeams scratch easy so I had them send me two new coverplates.  I will be buying some protective film to cover the new ones like the film on an iphone.  I tried them out and they work great.  Two of them cover the entire panel and make it possible to have two lights instead of four.

I used lights that are in the Cirrus.  Their price was $25.00 each.  They come with 24volt incandescent lights.  I changed the bulbs to Chevy side marker bulbs so they would work on my 12volt system.  I am looking into changing the bulbs to LED.  The lights matched the vents I am using with the air conditioning.

Just a word about your plan. Look at your sun visor and see what kind of room you'll have in that area. If your OVH hangs down a lot you will sacrifice with sun visor being low at times. Rosans are pretty big.

Good point.  I would think that installing them further back where I installed mine would give more room away from the visors than the commonly mounted red lights fwd on the console.  I don't know I will have to look at that.  I guess there are pros and cons.  Hard to adjust if they are in front of the visors and hard to point to the panel if behind it????

OK I finally found the light that I want to use instead of the vents in the overhead console. Now here is the question to all electrical engineers.

The LED light comes with an LED driver (transformator) which reduces the 230V (AC) into 12V DC 350mA.

Now here is my question.

Is it possible to leave the the LED driver out and connect the LED directly to the battery of course with a fuse in between?

The diameter of the Aveo won't fit in the vent recess of the console so it is not an option.

It depends.  



IF there is a current regulator in the LED assembly, then you could plug directly into the mail bus (which will on the order of 14 Volts during normal operation).  If they have not installed a regulator then you may burn out the LED's or shorten their life.  

 

The way to find out is to connect them to a bench / adjustable power supply and bring up the voltage slowly while watching the brightness of the LED.  If you get to say 8 volts the brightness of the LED reaches a peak and stays constant for the rest of the voltage change, then yes you have a regulator and it's working.  At that point you should be able to connect directly to the 12 V bus.  If not, then the LED will be brighter and you risk shortening the life.

I can help you if Jim's advice brings you not the correct outcome.



Distrelec sells power bricks which gives you a stabilized output voltage 

of 12V (up to 3A) I use them on my moving map display, input varies, 

mine allows 32-9V stabilized 12 V output. That will always work
