After troubleshooting fuel leaking out of one of my Bing carbs while the engine was not running, I figured out that the source was the primer line. My assumption was that years and ethanol combined to erode the innards of my primer and I perused Aircraft Spruce for another. I saw a plunger type, just like the one I had, and a bulb type. If you do a search on Aircraft Spruce for "fuel primer" you will see my choices. I chose the bulb type because it was lighter. Anybody who flies a model 2 would understand that. It came quickly and I installed it, only to find that I still had the leak. So now I must ask what is going on? Why does a new primer allow fuel to flow when not pumped? Is there something about the plunger type that makes it required for my bing carbs? If I remove the primer entirely, how do I deal with the leftover holes in my carbs?

Jeff,
Stay away form those bulb type primers- trouble lurking.
Call Rotax 866-418-4164 and get a new one. about 20$ .
ACS here http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/primerkit.php I AM NOT SURE about the Red fuel line though.... I have not sued so I cannot vouch for the integrity .
They can leak after a while yes--- I turn off my fuel shut off when not flying. Make sure you are plumbed after the shot off for your primer.
I had a old Kitfox 2 here that flew in -- I did a service - Get this --
the fuel line that went from gascolator to impulse fuel pump had cracks in it ........ i touched it and it squirted out --- SCARY !! and it was that Black automotive fuel line............. i replaced them all with blue urethane fuel line and safety wire.

Jeffrey, there are plugs available to cap off the primer ports if you remove the primer. part number 860-610 http://www.rotaxparts.net/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1343
I would remove the primer and plug the ports for a while to be sure that it is the primer causing the overflow. It might be a needle and seat/float level problem.
By the way, I installed a primer this winter after cranking the crap out of my starter trying to start in cold weather with the fuel enricher/choke system. My starter will probably last for ever now. Three squirts of the plunger and she starts soon as the starter engages.

Thanks guys for the help. It was just like both of you said. A new bulb type primer allowed fuel to flow when not actuating the primer, just like the worn out plunger type. A replacement plunger type did the trick. Something worth noting which you guys may already know. I think the added fuel into my carburetors from the old primer caused a drop in my idle speed. That was the whole reason I opened the hood in the first place; on my first flight of the season, my idle was down well below 2000.
I had turned each idle stop up one quarter turn before I noticed the gas leaking out of one carb. Today, with the plunger type new primer installed and working properly, I warmed up the engine to check the idle and, sure enough, I had to turn back the idle stops to where they were before to reduce the idle back to 2000.
