Mark, thanks again, you saved me a lot of money. The test you suggested was right on. Ran the engine, shut down, open snot valve...no air. Ran it again, got out very quickly and started spraying soapy water on banjo fitting....leaks so fast, barely caught them. Tightened all nuts (don't have new washers handy) rechecked and no leaks, plenty of air out the snot valve when opened up on final check. Lots of fun re-doing the safety wire on the bottom nut, but worth the aggravation. Glad to be flying again!!

Sorry I haven't been around to help the last few days. No easy internet access.

Hey, that's GREAT! It's always nice when a suggestion happens to work.
Others made the same suggestion as well, so it was not just me.

If you're flying a 52, and you look at the line going from the banjo
fitting you just repaired, over to the snot valve, and it is all one
solid line with a big loop in the middle, you might consider replacing
it with a flex line, and I think Doug Sapp makes them. I've seen a LOT
of the lines described above fail. A LOT.

Also... That line is another reason the banjo fitting loosens up.. The
stress on it from engine vibration.

I contacted Doug, he doesn't make them anymore because of difficulty finding the fittings, I believe. But sounds like something I'll keep checking.

Hmmm. That's not a good thing. I got mine off a Sukhoi. Need to see
if I can find a part number and we might go that route.

If you look at some of the later YAK designs, like the 52W's for
instance... They kept the same line with the loop in it, but added a
splice fitting and ran the last 6 inches or so (more or less) with steel
braided flex line.

Obviously everyone recognizes that with a high pressure steel hard line
connected to the compressor, which is mounted on the engine... And the
other end of this line connected to the snot valve, which is connected
to the FIREWALL ... .something has to give as the engine moves in the
mounts.

It should come as no surprise that this line tends to crack and break.
