The overhead console and weight are what's driving my decision to paint.  Thanks for the reply.
Any others painting the cabin top???  What did you use???

Lynn, it has been almost 2 years now. I am sorry I don’t recall what paint was used but it turned out terrific and I really like the simplicity of the painted cabin after 155 hours. If I didn’t have an OH console with its complex angles, switches, openings & eyeball vents I would have used a headliner.

Good luck,
Robin

Spoken like a builder that hasn't worked with the canopy yet! Talk aboutcrappy fiberglass. I would definitely pay extra for much more finishedglass parts. I decided to paint my interior canopy vs. headliner and ittakes a lot of filler and sanding to get the canopy paint ready inside &out.

I painted the interior of my cabin cover, I used Sherwin Williams Ultra Interior auto paint color matched to the seat leather colors.
LOTS of prep work. here's link to 30-40 pics that recount the event.

I painted cabin top using paint from a local auto paint supplier. Came out nice. A bit glossier than I wanted, but it was what they recommended and looks nice. Had them color-match the leather and it is near perfect.

Linn,

Give Geoff Combs a call. I don’t know if you have his overhead or not, but he’s got some other items in the works that you may be interested in. One will save you some painting.

Hi Bob

Looked at your Picasa collection of the overhead panel you built - looks great and I will surely revisit once I get there.

Any reason why you would rather paint the cabin top on th inside rather than doing a resin with a gel coat and color impregnated?

Happy Building

Pierre
