My Yak 18T has just had a new (12v x 2) batteries fitted but within 10 days they are totally flat. Everything is switched off including the interior dome light and battery switch. Any suggestions and advice very welcome, gentlemen ?

You'll need a meter.
Charge the batteries (slowly) and when they are up to speed connect an
AMMETER in series on one of the battery leads. Either one, but I prefer
the ground wire. Install the amp meter in series with the neg. lead on
the battery to ground.
See if you have any current flow with the master switch off. You should
not have any. If you do, more instructions to follow.
If this test passes, reconnect battery as normal removing amp meter.
Now read battery voltage. Start engine and read battery voltage again.
It should read about 24 volts motor off. It should read about 28 volts
motor running about 60%.
Report results.

Check the night red and white lights. They stay on even with the battery off. I had the problem and it was not easy to find as the lights are really low.

Steve,
Just FYI. Your batteries going dead after 10 days is caused by one of two things.
1. Your generator is not charging the darn things. Unlikely as I would think you would notice this, but ... worth checking. That is the voltage test. Engine off, 24 volts. Engine running... about 28 VDC AT THE BATTERY!
2. The other cause is that something is drawing current with the master switch off. This is the AMP METER check. If you see any current draw, the step after that is to start pulling circuit breakers until it goes away.
3. The final possibility is simply.... you have bad batteries that will not hold a charge. Unlikely ok? But... you have to list all possible causes.
Lastly... some people that run two batteries in series to get 24 volts... as in two 12 volt batteries in series to get 24 volts... which is what you are doing.. some folks put a wire in the MIDDLE between the two batteries so that they can power some 12 volt device. You are NOT doing this are you? Need to know that.
Best of luck,
Mark Bitterlich (My other email address).

Hi Steve,
I had similiar issue, with my plane and it was the Batteries!
I also played safe and followed Mark Sorenson suggestion and added the regulator and a new capacitor.
