We are acquiring a backup Housi 285 that will be put in storage for some time.  The engine is currently on an operating a/c , so it can be run prior to preserving. Looking for “best practices” recommendations for the proper pickling method, as it will be stored horizontally on the shipping pallet.

Thanks, Dave

Dave,Moisture is the biggest problems with stored engines, rust in the cylinders, etc.  Coating the cyl walls with oil is a must, rather this is done spray or flooding it should be done if the engine is to be stored for a extended period of time.  Desiccant plugs in the spark plug holes is also a good idea.  They are available from Spruce, but like any desiccant tool it is useless if not monitored on a regular basis.  Exhaust port plugs should be installed if you have them.  Check in your Tech Spec manual, I think I recall some storage guidelines there.

Good luck,
Doug
