This is the third time I've tried to log onto the AYA Forum. Apparently, my account is blocked, inactive or some other bullshit. I tried creating a new one and the username was not allowed. Are you kidding me? Then, there is no link to send an email to the web master. I've tried this Forum off and on for 3 years. Every time I've tried it, it's been a pain in the ass.

Gary
Steve (Steve Roberts) is your man to help you out if you are having problems. He looks after the forum site, it is not administered by the AYA web site editor if that is who you are trying to contact. Assume you have seen the "Read this before you Register" http://www.ayaforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=106 topic on the forum site.
As it says there send Steve a email to forumadmin(at)aya.org he should be able to sort out any problems you are having. I think he is on the teamgrumman list so no doubt may reply direct.
No matter how I write it the Matronics forum site puts a (at) instead of (at) in that email address, email listing may come out OK, but I'm sure you'll work it out.

I was thinking about the AYA Forum this morning. Some thoughts,
(1) Since participation in the forum requires AYA membership and the forum moderator needs to vett each applicant to the forum, that means
a. The problems with "BAD" people as Don says, or "NAUGHTY" people as Steve says, means that there are bad or naughty people in the AYA over which no one has control AFTER they sign up for the forum.
b. I've also been told that spammers and scammers are a problem on AYA forum. Again, that would only come from AYA members. Must be a nefarious group.
c. IF AYA membership is required, why isn't the AYA membership number asked for on the first line of the registration page?
d. IF AYA membership is required, why doesn't an approved user name and temporary password come with the registration?
(2) Why can't the forum moderator block unwanted screen names, spam, and scams after the fact and just trust everyone up front to be honest?
(3) The first two times I signed up, I got usernames and passwords, with the help of the moderator. Each time, apparently, that username/password has expired because I didn't use the forum. Does that mean that IF I want to keep my user name I have to make X number of posts to the forum to remain active? If so, why isn't that spelled out on the sign in page?

This needs to be nipped in the bud. Somehow the message is not getting across. You DO NOT need to be a AYA member to register and participate on the forum site. It is for that reason that naughty/bad people who are not AYA members and scamming the forum has lead Steve to have to change the registration process to protect all users, AYA members and guests alike.
When this problem first became apparent the then AYA President made this statement as to why the registration process had changed.
"The process for subscribing to the AYA Forum has changed. It was changed to help fight against those 'unhelpful' jerks (I'd like to use stronger language here but this is a family site !!) who try and infiltrate the system with spam, unsavoury topics and porn links. The changes introduced by the Forum Administrator - the brave and slim Steve Roberts.
Steve's new security measures have helped dramatically in reducing the naughty people's attacks."
If you have problems with the AYA forum please direct them to the Steve Roberts who administers it as per my previous post.

I don't think so, but again Steve is your man to ask. Out of the 211 on the AYA forum memberlist 128 have made no posts and are still registered. Does any of your usernames still appear on the memberlist .?
However just like the TeamGrumman Forum this does appear under the FAQ banner.
( Q ) I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore!
( A ) The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason. If it is the latter case then perhaps you did not post anything? It is usual for boards to periodically remove users who have not posted anything so as to reduce the size of the database. Try registering again and get involved in discussions.

Grumpy,
You said the president made the statement,
"The process for subscribing to the AYA Forum has changed.
I didn't get that message. Where was that message posted? Is that message somewhere on the AYA forum page accessible to non-members?
How about one of these ideas:
(1) Instead of going to the AYA forum registration page and letting the prospective forum applicant spend his time filling out a form that is going to be rejected anyway, change the registration page to simply say,
"We've been experiencing problems with spammers, scammers, naughty, and bad people creating havoc with our site. We value your contributions and will do everything in our power to make sure this forum is safe and secure. Until further notice, please send Steve a personal email (and then giving the email, don't hide it) stating your intentions to join the AYA forum." At that point, Steve can determine if you meet the necessary qualifications to join.
or
(2) Instead of getting the message "Sorry, but this username has been disallowed." and then blocking any further access, change the message to read,
"Thank you for joining the AYA forum. Please allow 24 hours to process your application." This would give Steve 24 hours to determine if you meet the necessary qualifications to join.
The message, "Sorry, but this username has been disallowed." only pissed me off. It did not say why. It did not say what to do next. It did not suggest another, more acceptable, name. It did nothing to endear me to the forum. I tried my previous two login accounts and found they didn't work either 'due to inactivity.' Not only that, but no where on the registration page is a link to Steve.

I tried to get my password and used my current email.
The e-mail address you supplied does not match the one listed for that username.
Great. Now what? Start guessing at my email?
