Today I got a call from AOPA that my insurance rate will increase $300. when I renew. He said that all tail wheel aircraft insurance is going up. Even with all my ratings and clean record, 500 plus tail wheel time makes no difference. Has anyone else had this call? Tex

AOPA is tooooo expensive. Call AUA Insurance at 336-668-3410 (Greensboro, NC). I've had them for nine years and their rates are very reasonable, about $800 under AOPA and EAA when I last checked.

I just renewed my policy for the second year on my Kitfox 3 thru EAA Falcon insurance agency. I have liability only including passengers for $307. I received a quote from Aopa which was over $500. I hope this will help in your insurance decision.

My insurance carrier is Chartis Aviation. No address given. To initiate I contacted EAA. I got a reply from Falcon Insurance Agency, Inc. P.O. Box 291388 Kerrville, Texas 78029. I have a total time of 3550Hrs., 1270 Tail Wheel time, and 42 in my Kitfox 3. I keep it hangered on my 1350 Ft. grass strip on my farm. Also I am 66 and flying on my drivers license. Jim, Thanks for reply. I am also 66 but extremely low time newly licensed pilot. I've got liab. and hull insured for $24K. I'm paying $1400 through Falcon with Global. They seem to cover everything including the pilot for 1st phase. Another co., can't remember which, wanted to double deductible and no coverage on test pilot during 1st phase. I'll probably go to liability only after this 1st year.

I have been using Sky Smith Insurance for the past 4 years. He is an insurance broker that knows airplanes (including experimentals) Full coverage, $50K hull, etc. I'm currently renewing my policy and it will be around $1,250.
