Is it acceptable practice to use red rtv in place of proseal where it is
called out in the firewall sections such as the heater vents and the box
corners? I realize red rtv is not a true fire barrier, but then neither
is proseal at an upper range of +275 degrees.

Sean,
I'm not sure I'd use either one. We get this 3M fire sealant at Home Depot:

It isn't expensive. One tube would do the whole firewall perimeter and misc. gaps.

Vans sells, and I believe recommends for the firewall a high temp
ProSeal or equivalent. It is NOT the standard tank sealant that is
being called for.

Normally not bad, but windblown avgas burns at 1875 degrees. Just a precaution in case of engine fire.
