Background: 1991 AG5B Tiger, 4400 TTAF. Known prop strike in 1999. Been annualed by the folks in Columbia, CA since 1990-something.
I did the annual on this plane and noticed the nose gear boot was crushed. I mean smashed against the cowling. I measured distance to the tip of the spinner on my plane then then to the tip on the AG. The AG was about 3 inches lower. I bounced the nose and, well, I think I heard something. Not quite sure.
So, several months ago, I started pulling this plane apart to get to the nose gear torque tube. Based on angle measurements Garner gave me, something was wrong. I finally got the torque tube out today. What a pain. I'm thinking splined shafts like the torsion bar suspension on my Tahoe would be a better idea. Then it would all come apart without removing everything in the plane.
I've had too much fun today. Time for NCIS and Unit reruns.
