just a heads up. In Aril TT replaced the fading LCD display on my controller. In the process they removed the magnetometer (V2.36) and last Friday I held the on/off button a little too long and got into the gyro set mode. If that occurs the straight and level parms are messed up and the AP will want to steer hard right or hard left. On the ground you will need to press and hold the on/off button for a period of about 30 seconds to ensure that the internal gyros find and remember "straight and level"

Dave,

I’ve got mine in for a SW update right now but decided to pass on the magnetometer to revised gyro update because of the associated cost and lack of perceived benefit (to me). Any particular reason you made that leap? It’s my understanding that the only time the change comes into play when/if the AP doesn’t have any GPS feed and then reverts to bank angle instead of mag heading.

This was a no charge repair to the display and I was advised that the magnatometer board would be removed to accomodate the new LED display. I was not given a choice. In my case the aircraft has multiple GPS feeds controlled by a gang switch for AP source. I can feed from Chelton, GRT or none.

Interesting. I had my screen replaced last fall as a no-charge item. The magnetometer to new gyro swap was discussed as an upgrade possibility but I passed on it. Just thought I’d revisit the decision.

Those failing LCD displays must be a real pain for the TT folks. Mine went before OSH, but the nice folks at TT fixed it and returned the unit to me before OSH and it performed flawlessly for the whole trip. Good people.

Hey Mike,

Can you describe the symptoms for me? I'm wondering whether mine is on the way out.

Cheers

After the upgrade to fix the fading display (V2.36?) , The AP wants to turn hard right or left when turned on. It is supposed to synchronize to heading and altitude. Using the gyro set function will occasionally fix the problem but it recurs on the next flight. Anyone else have these symptoms. Seems to me to be a controller failure of the internal solid "level" gyro.
