Long time no post...
I flew the length of Oregon from South to North and back again this weekend. Arty Trost and the good folks at the UFO (Ultralight Flyers Organization) club hosted a fly-in at Sandy River (03S) this last weekend. It was a great time, with lots of airplanes, good people and good food. I got a chance to see (and hear) Jason Omelchuck's Yamaha powered Mark III. If I had the money, I would buy it in a heartbeat. It is a very sanitary and well thought out installation with excellent workmanship. It sounds a touch more subdued than a 912S, but climbs just as well.

The weather was cool and turned a bit wet with some drizzle overnight and low ceilings Sunday AM. It was a nice change from the heat we have been in back home. We waited for the clouds to lift and chased the weather South all the way home.

Here are the flight stats:
Total air time of 7 hours, 38 mins, with 32 gals of fuel burned, covering a distance of 540 miles. Average ground speed for the entire trip was 70.7mph with an average burn of 4.2g/hr.

I'll attach a few pics below.

Roger:

Does my heart good to see folks get out and do some "real" flying. Beats
heck out of flying around the traffic pattern.

Congratulations on your successful flight.

Hope to see you all in a month or so.

Roger, Makes me homesick. The PNW is truly one of the finest places on the planet. Congratulations on some great flying.

Roger,

Inspiring post, great photos. Multi-day trips with some substance to them are definitely the best flights. I've only got one under my belt. It was the best flying experience I ever had, & I think about it all the time. Last year, I could not wait to check each day where Arty was on her S&F X-Country.

Roger, Great flight, great photos. That's what flying is all about. Bet
there were plenty of folks that couldn't bear to look at the photos. Not a
landing strip anywhere in sight. I'm sure a lot of them saying "but MY
flight instructor said never to fly unless you have a BIG landing strip
directly under you" (I always wonder how many hours these "flight
instructors" have). I agree that you have to always be careful, but as you
have shown, it's ok to leave the runway behind. It amazes me that no one
thinks a thing of getting into their cars and driving (over 50,000 folks
killed on the highway each year in the USA) but think the airspace beyond
the runway is forbidden.
I haven't heard Arty Trost's name brought up in years.
Way to go
Gene

Roger,
I really like the looks of your windshield. When you have the time can you
send me a photo that shows it more clearly so I can figure out how it's put
together? I'm close to redoing mine. I only have the center section.

Hello Roger,

Thanks for the plug. I flew my new airplane home from California last weekend but I have committed to continue to fly the Kolb untill I get it sold, so here is another shameless plug for a great airplane. A great deal at only $15K

Video walk around
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL-IsBKFPjU

Video of flying.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjkOfz8clC8

The flying video is taken with a small point and shoot camera that takes videos. It is just clamped onto the flap handle. You can see in the approach to the bar in the river that I automatically reach for the flaps but then realize it will mess up my video and make the landing without flaps.

Jason

You all might want to view his two videos. Excellent workmanship on
the plane and the videos.
Also note it is running a Yamaha conversion to a Rotax gear box.
