Anyone built the 650 canopy upgrade kit on a XL yet? If so did you replace the existing skin on top of the instrument panel with the new precut version?
The precut version appears to be completely off the dimensions of the instrument panel. Anyone else encountered this problem?

My forward top-skin was 10mm too wide as measured between the bend lines. The print dimensions confirmed this. The effect was a large gap at the top flange of the instrument panel and firewall. Zenith sent me a replacement that was identical to the first. I could not convince them that there was a problem on their end. I had to make one from scratch which was to the drawing and fit very nicely.

This is the same problem that I have. Did the size of the instrument panel change between the XL and 650? Is this may be why they don't fit?
It is not possible for us to have screwed this bit up as it is defined by the top of the instrument panel which Zenith made. I wish that they would just fess up when they have cocked up.

Hey Guys,
The instrument panel size has been changed. If you have an older 601xl serial # the panel is 16mm longer, then the newer ones (incl the 650)

Could you be a bit more specific as to exactly what is 16mm longer? I'm not quite following this conversation, but since I am soon to put a panel in my fuselage, I'd like to know the options.

The older serial # show 467mm and the newer ones incl. the 650 show 459mm (plan 6-B-12) which is half the panel width.
The panel side angle 6C1-1 has been changed as well. The older side angle is 64mm from the bottom to the 37 degree bend line and 76mm to a 30 degree bend line for the 650.
The forward top skin for the 650 is different and it has 20mm bends (30 degree) on both sides where they overlap the side angle. (the old ones did not have bends)
