I have had a Lowrance Airmap 2000C for about 6 years. Apparently Lowrance is totally out of the aviation business and no longer providing database updates.
I am shopping for a replacement. Besides the usual Garmin units does anyone have any experience with the Bendix AV8OR or the Anywhere Map Quadra?

I too have been using an Airmap (1000) for many years and have been looking around for a replacement in the next year or so. I have been looking at the iFly, but just have not figured out how I would mount it, as it is bigger then the Airmap. I am not ready to pay Garmin prices for a VFR GPS.
In the same size frame (or maybe a bit bigger) is the IPad, which has many aviation apps available, but still the same issue of where to mount it?..

It has one of the best mounts I have seen....suction cup it to a corner of your windshield and let the screen rest on or just below your glare shield....I can't imagine a set up where the mount would not work....it sticks tight and twist in any direction....not suitable as a yoke mount as it does not have a clamp but the attach point on the back would let you improvise if need be....

In the past I have not had good luck with suction mounts on Plexiglas. It seems more porous then glass, and after 20 min it falls off. I would prefer a more solid mount.

A little soapy water or saliva in a pinch will help a suction cup hold better. If it gets direct sun, the heat will make the small air pocket expand and sometimes pop the suction cup loose.

Have you taken a look at the GPS mounts at www.gpsbracket.com? He has many sizes of brackets designed for Grummans that attach to the windshield frame. I have one in my Tiger that I have a Flight Cheetah 190 attached to and I’m pretty happy with it.

I have my iFly 700 attached to a Dillon bracket using a RAM arm and articulator to get it just right. Photos available upon request. I love the iFly but powering the unit is an issue as it has no internal battery. I solved the problem by having a DC outlet installed next to the mag switch.

I'll second Andy's comments. I too, love my iFly 700. Works great. I'm a Mac guy, and would love to own the iPad, but the iFly was cheaper. I use my old Lowrance AirMap 300 yoke mount. Works great in the Tiger I rent. Surprisingly, it worked great in the Cherokee I rode in today; slower, but still worked fine.
I put velcro on the back to mate it up to the Lowrance mount. Might be able to find this mount on eBay.
