Short answer: the diverging section slows down the velocity of the air, increasing the pressure. Then, a more uniform pressure is accelerated into the carb/throttle body

Take a good, long, look at the Tiger inlet. Not the AG5B Tiger, it's fucked up. The inlet starts out at just under 12 sq inches, then expands in the airbox to 30 sq inches. You can't make a much better inlet. Well, you can. But you have to get rid of the carb heat portion and . . . . . . .
