Yea, I had one on a 503 and used one on the 582 it is now in use with the HKS I feel they help some but will not replace doing a good balance job on the prop to start with.

That's kinda what I figured. Not the answer to all problems but maybe a little help.
I must admit, I'm a little disappointed with my new Blue Head/C gear box (2.58:1) combo. I traded a Gray Head/B box combo in and the new engine seems a little less smooth with my same old GSC 3-bladed prop, recently refurbished and balanced by the factory and meticulously installed, pitched, and tracked. Seems like a very high freq vibration, worse around 4K rpm, but never really disappears across the rpm spectrum.
Maybe I'm just more aware of it since I expected smoothness. The old gray head didn't even have the liquid-filled flywheel on it.

OK, I need a little education here. Liquid flywheel??
I am in the midst of changing my greyhead for a Mod 99 myself and I do not
expect more smoothness (the original exceeded my expectations) or any
difference at all except that I should not have to watch the temp gauge
quite so much. But I am using my old "c" box chunk of iron flywheel. What is
a "liquid_filled" flywheel and should I want one?

Hi Chris, have you checked that your carbs are in synchronized, on the Bing 54's it easy just remove the airfilters and measure each slide at idle, 1/4 1/2 3/4 and full throttle if both are the same at all positions it is fine if not adjust the cable to get both the same.
If you want to go high tech this tool is good:

Occom...In the mid-90's, Rotax went to a flywheel (the one on the generator side of the engine, not the gearbox) that contains some kind of viscous liquid. This helps to dampen the power pulses and is supposed to absorb vibrations before they leave the engine. It's standard on all their 2-strokes now I believe.
Mnflyer...Good point on the carbs. I've spent quite a bit of time synching them without use of the Synchromate, i.e. just making sure the slides are even and they reach the top (at) the same time and the egt's match up well. I'm curious about the Synchromate though. It appears that it is made more for the 912/914 Rotaxes, rather than the 2 strokes as it refers to 2 carbs that are vacuum linked. Where would one hook up the vacuum lines that run to the instrument on the 582/Bing 54 carbs?

Use primer ports.
I would be it your prop -- try old gsc or borrow one to isolate.

Chris, When it came time to sync my 582 carbs I was dreading the process. I remembered past twin carb VW and 4 carb motorcycle engine syncing with all the hookups, adjusting and readjusting. Another 582 driver said all he ever did was sync the slides by eye using the same method you mentioned. It worked great for me too, and took less than 5 minutes. Engine runs smooth with equal EGT's. I don't think I could have done any better, may worse, with the manometer setup.

Yeah, I've always synched my carbs by eyeball too. In fact, I still don't understand how the manometer method would work anyway. I hooked one up to one of the primer nipples yesterday (just a simple dry vacuum gauge) and even (at) 5000 rpm, it was reading zero.
Anyway, I did the mechanical synch again and things seem a little smoother now. It's all so subjective.

I have a flowmeter carb synchronizer laying around from my sports car days that worked well on the 532. It fits over the carb's air intake and is similar to this one: http://www.jcwhitney.com/universal-carburetor-synchronizer/p2005371.jcwx?skuId=202931&TID=231000000&zmam=15972153&zmas=21&zmac=123&zmap=492173
But I've found that if I match the closed-positions of both carbs identically (engine off), then the flows are matched with the engine running on the ground at cruise RPM, within a little bit.
The flowmeter in the link above has an air column that pivots, allowing it to work with both downdrafts and sidedrafts.
