Hi Carl

It really depends on the type of antifreeze you used, most ethylene glycol types are mixable but the corrosion  inhibitors could be compromised,

A few months shouldn’t be a problem, just drain down and replace soonest,

What concerns me more is the need to top up in the first place,

My cooling system hasn’t needed topping up in three years, I will be changing the antifreeze this year before the inhibitors become totally exhausted,
I would pressure test the cooling system for leaks and look for orange/blue/green/purple/red  ( pick your colour) stains anywhere
The water pump is a good place to start,

Was running low and had to top it off with the green stuff.  Now what?  I'm reading that this can cause some serious corrosion issues.  Been in the engine for about 2-3 months now.  Didn't think it would be a big deal, argh!

Carl

Called a guy at Lockwood and he said the same thing. No big deal, just flush at soonest convenience. As to why it needs topping off .. I replaced the sprag clutch on my 912 last Winter and I'm slowly weeping fluid. Haven't been able to nail it down. I think it may be the pump housing .. I occasionally see just a little bit of moisture down there, but I could never be too sure since it is one of the lowest points on the engine and could just be dripping from higher up. I talked to a guy at the airport who used to own a Kitfox 4 with a 912 and he says he was never able to nail down every radiator leak in his plane. With all the hoses, something is bound to leak, so he says.

How do you recommend pressure testing the radiator?

A better way to find the leak is to get a bottle of phosphorescent dye made for just this kind of leak detection. I used it on my 582 system and it worked like a charm. All you need is an ultraviolet bulb for a drop light and a dark hangar and you'll find your leak in no time. I found the dye at O'reilly's Auto Supply. It was about $5.

Hi Carl
I have used an automotive type tester similar to this

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-Auto-Radiator-Pressure-Tester/

But it wouldn’t be difficult to make your own, A rubber plug to go into the expansion bottle instead of the radiator cap, Use a conventional tubeless tyre valve screwed/bonded into the plug,
Then apply pressure using a foot pump with gauge, bring the pressure up to just slightly more than your cap release pressure, check for leaks,
If you haven’t the spring loaded hose clamps then I would change them, The early Jubilee clips were a source of weepage also I would change the rubber hoses for quality silicone,
