After nearly five years, I'm happy to say I completed my first flight in my CH701. The airplane performed flawlessly and it was one of the most exciting flights I've ever had.
Much to my surprise, the airplane initially climbed like a homesick angel. While I tried to keep a climbout speed of 50 mph, I edged it up to 60 mph and was doing 1500 fpm! The Rotax 912ULS seems like a bulletproof engine.
I also found out the landing gear is pretty stout and can take a good beating. Don't ask me how I know that.
Thanks to all on this forum for all the advice. It is much appreciated.
Best Regards,
Dan Ginty

Congratulations Dan!
I know exactly what you mean, did my 1st flight last week. Except it took 8 years to this month when I started this.
It sure feels good to be done. I have about 18 landings now behind me. No stol stuff yet. Flying from a large grass
strip.
I do have a few squawks though.
Pressure on stick, wants to roll to the left, I know its from elevator cables.Spring to offset pull fixed it.
Had to bend down trailing edge of elevator because using up all trim to stay level.
Of course aeroflash supply failed due to bad large capacitor, they sat for many years not being used. Replaced Cap.
Prop pitch adjusted to get more power, started at 11.5 deg now at 9.5 and getting 5300 at full power. Its a Warp drive 3 blade 68".
Will bring it back to 9 deg to try and get 5800 out of my 80hp rotax 912 but that pitch sounds too small.

It is a 701 with the 912ULS - 100hp uncertified. Some of you 701 experts will also notice the landing gear is not the tundra gear. This was purchased as a used kit that was originally bought in 1999. Back then the main landing gear was similar in design to the 601 using the same forks. It can't take the punishment like the tundra gear, but it can easily convert to floats.
