I've seen those tic-tac-toe contrails too, but by the light of a rising

Newark. Too bad I didn't take pictures of that. Quite a sight. Where did
you take yours?

Frank,
I took the contrail picts in western Lancaster Co PA looking east towards Philadelphia, on the morning of Oct 18.
I counted at least 21 different contrails visible at one time that morning, most all heading more or less towards Chicago and points west.
Just to keep this more or less Kolb related I'll include this photo of the Mk II, but please don't get nervous about the trees.

These are called "chemtrails" and are different
than the usual contrails from aircraft engines.
They are aerosols being sprayed into the atmosphere
for reasons not known. They can be seen all over the
world since about 1998. Do a google search.

Love the wind vane, too.
