All,
What advice do you have about working on the cabin forward skins / top skin without having an engine mount.

The Photo Assembly guide suggests not to drill any holes in the upper engine/cabin frame mount until I have an engine mount. What have others done at this stage, or did all of you have your engine mount already?

Keith,
I built an older 601 and used a builder's manual rather that a Photo Assembly Guide, but the concern is that the motor mount holes and the firewall studs line up with no unnecessary stress on the mount. The mounts vary a little bit and depending on your choice, may come from various suppliers. In my case, I simply built the fuselage according to plans, especially the stud locations, and demanded that the mount be per plans too. That turned out to be no problem. Remember that the mount will point down and to the right when mounted. Of course, the easy answer is to get the mount now. Most suppliers will sell just the mount, especially if you will buy the rest of the FWF package from them later.
