After gradually creeping up on the right pitch setting for the 4 blade reduced to 2 Power Fin and a day without screaming winds I was able to do as direct a comparison as I was capable of this afternoon. When all was said and done, the completely wrong 3 blade Warp Drive won by 3 mph. About the only thing that came out of the test was that I get less pitch change with power changes now that I've added another 1/4" to the rear motor mounts for a total of 1/2". I suppose that's worth something.

Rick

I'm sure you know but to do a true test between a two blade and a three blade prop you need to change the length of the props. If you have room you need to fit a longer blade to the two blade prop. A correctly sized two blade prop will out perform a tree blade prop. A three blade prop is better if you don't have room to swing a longer two blade prop. A three blade prop is normally much smoother and quieter than a two blade prop especially on a pusher.

Can someone explain why I usually see the three blade on a Firefly, and a two blade on a Firestar- both with the 447?

Richard, The Power Fin was an inch longer. Not enough to make a real difference, I know, but some. I was hoping for parity between the two and was a bit surprised that the 2 blade did not at least equal the 3.What truly amazed me was the initial test when the 4 blade was mounted on the 582 and the engine couldn't pull it. Makes me really wonder what a properly set up HKS could do on the Mk III. I have the coming winter to decide about that.
