SN107 has flown today at 11am. This is an LS-1. All went well with no problems noted. Normal adjustments to be as expected and some more flying this afternoon.

Hey Nick,
Congratulations to you and all the Lightning team for this latest successful first flight. Is this your newest demonstrator or a customer's airplane? I'll put a note in the next newsletter.
On other subjects - I'm in DC for an afternoon meeting, but don't forget to send me the data for the NASA contractor.  They are anxious to proceed.
And - did you get the 0-360 photos? Any interest?
Buz

Hello Nick, this is Luigi from Rome,Italy.
I am the owner of an Esqual, with 50 hours.
Is my intention to change the wheels and brakes with the one's you installed on the Lightning.
Looking on the Matco site I am unable to choose due to the several model.
Could you please tell me the P/N of the model you find to be ok for the Lightning ?
Will be a great favour indeed.
Do you to think the 5" better than the 6" ?
I use normally grass field.
Thank you very much for the help
Sincerely yours
Luigi Di Napoli

The model is the WC51 a 5 in wheel with external calipers. The MC4 master cylinders are the once we use. Interesting enough the Esqual mater cylinders will provide enough pressure to hold the matco brakes but you will have to convert the caliper for the use of the DOT fluid as the o rings are mil506. use some 500-5 goodyears and you will be set fine for grass operations. Remember to tell matco the axle size for the weld-ment on the esqual. I think it is 5/8” but don’t remember.

Nick

Nick,
don't want to stick my nose in this, but for safety, I will remind others of my brake tire change over from 20 mph tires to better aircraft tires needing more psi. If he is going to use the Esqual rim with the better tires- a reminder how one of my Esqual rims blow apart and also took out the wheel pant because of too much tire pressure. Diff. of cast verses spun rim. Matco also has great rims.

Dave thank-you for the info.Could you, please, list the change you made in the whole Esqual braking system ?
I found already the rims extremely expanded due the pressure, or the tires quality or both inadeguate.
I would like to modify everything to have a braking system as the name suggests.
The actual tires are with the maximum speed allowed erased so I believe worth to change everything. The axle diameter is 20 mm and I cannot imagine how to install a Matco caliper on the existing support.
Let me know how you did.
Thank you very much
Luigi
