Here is a link to a 15 dollar, plus shipping, kit on Ebay... It uses
30 volt pulses to do the job...at 1.25 khz...takes up to three weeks... Herb

I bought two of these a year ago and I have to say, they do absolutely nothing. I was really disappointed and sorry that I fell for the add. In looking at the output, using a scope, I saw no pulses at all. I built up both units, thinking maybe first one was defective but no luck.

Rick
Do you have a schematic? We are talking about the kit on
Ebay? My first thought was that it consisted of a 555 timer
chip...some sort of L C. circuit to step up the voltage ? The
circuit board looked very basic...Herb

I will make myself a note to check on the schematic tomorrow and get back with you. Surely I still have the information on this somewhere.

Sorry I couldn't find the schematic but I did attach a picture of what I have. As you can see my unit is different than the one on E-Bay. Maybe that one works but mine sure doesn't. It's cheap enough to get one and try, and if you do let us know how it works. I had always heard that once a battery sulfates, it's gone. At the same time I thought that there surely is a way to pulse the sulfate off the plates and regain use of the battery. I tried for weeks using this circuit but nothing. I tried battery's that still had some capacity, maybe half capacity, but could never see any improvement. Believe me I really wanted to see this thing work but maybe its true that once a battery sulfates it's gone.

Rick,

The 1.3 amp Battery Minder charger/desulphater on the rack at Northern tools works just fine. I've used it to restore several batteries including one that went flat over the winter on my boat. A 20 amp charger couldn't push anything through it. It holds a charge after a month in desulphate mode.

I recently bought a Schauer 2/4/8/16 amp charger from PacificBattery. It enables me to select battery type. They seem to buy in lots. Everything isn't on the shelf every day. They currently have 6, 12 and 24 volt units on offer. The BatteryMinder is on the boat.

Just a little extraneous info: you don't need to buy the 6V model to charge a 6V battery.... IF you have two 6V batteries.Hook 'em up in series (+ -) (+ -) -voila! a 12V battery. a real amp monster too.
Yeah, I know, not a lot of 6V Kolbs flying, but hey, ya never know.

Rick

Take a pic of the etch side and I will try to draw the
schematic... I notice that most of the components have standard
numbers...The Timer is a 555 ic ...the other Ic is a hex inverter
. one Mosfet...two torroids in the voltage stepup circuit.. three
resistors...two electrolytic capacitors..one diode that looks to be 3
to 5 amps... The Zerner is to be used only in 24 volt service... by the way...

I hope this is not too far off topic...If a battery can be
restored to most of its original charge ..then most of us should all
be interested...Herb

Answer my own question....Guess the leads to the battery to be
rejuvenated are hidden? Here is a link to the site

Herb:

Here is the picture you wanted of the bottom of the circuit board. I have put two white dots on the board indicating pin 1 of the Ic's. The part number of the voltage regulator looking component is HRF 3205. The large diode looking device"s number is 0614G. The two toroids numbers are 2116-H. The red wire goes to the positive side of the battery and the black goes to negative. There is no other connection to be made. I was really disappointed with the EAA sponsoring something like this, but I'm over it. I've worked in electronics for 40 years. I don't remember how much these two circuits cost but they do nothing.

I am embarrassed to say but it will be a while before I'm ready to fly. This last summer didn't go as planed. I had several things come up I had to take care of and I also had to have both knee's replaced. I had them both done at the same time so recovery's taking a little longer than I expected. I have done all I can to the plane here at home. All the finishing will have to be done at the airport in my hangar. I haven't even covered the main wings yet. The tail feathers are covered but not painted.

His new version shows two leads coming from the battery charger
and two going to the battery.. It looks as if your unit hooks to the
battery under test along with the charger in parallel. Is that what
you surmise?

Check the web site... Herb

Yes, that's exactly the way it's hooked up. The battery charger then parallels the red and black wires at the battery. I feel that if the new version works, he should replace mine. Really can't see that happening in this day and age.
