I posted this on the Rotax Engine forum and so far haven't got what I was asking for, the Rotax spec, so I thought maybe someone here knows.
I'm trying to find just how much the intake silencer costs in terms of HP. Rotax has two different lines on their performance graphs for this engine, but they are both labeled the same, 582 UL-2V but the difference between the two is 11.4 HP (8 KW). Is this the effect of the silencers? Given the difference in jetting specs from the Bing manual it seems plausible, but I don't want to advise anyone based on guesswork by me. Can anyone point me to a Rotax spec for silencer / no silencer HP? As long as I'm at it, I can't remember where I picked up this little gem. The Rotax spec for oil for the 582 is API TC. This was the spec for Pennzoil Air Cooled 2 cycle oil. Either at Rotax engine school or LSARM school I was told that the additives in API TC rated oil are not compatible with NMMA TCW-3 rated oil and will cause the mix to congeal. Since I run mixed gas and not oil injection I only worry about it for the rotary valve oil and I've been careful to make sure customers are aware of this. Yesterday when Ken's airplane arrived the previous owner was kind enough to send along a pint of Pennzoil Air Cooled so Ken would know what's in the oil injection and rotary valve tanks. Right on the front it says NMMA TCW-3. I checked the bottles of oil I bought at Sun n Fun in 2007 and it was still API TC then. Anyone aware of this issue?
Thanks and Merry Christmas Folks,

Can't help you on the oil, but when I added the intake silencer on the 582, on climbout I was still turning the same rpm even with the rejet. Doesn't seem like it ought to, but it did. So I assume the hp loss is minimal.

I had one on a 447 and I wasn't able to notice any difference, although the stuff that came with the silencer said that it would reduce about two hp. I had to change jet sizes down to 147 from either 152 or 156, can't remember which at this time. It took the whine out of the motor though and I was pleased with it.
