Hi Don,
The Commander was a 680E that had been converted from s/n 680-491-161, registered N601JJ.
The accident happened on May 28th 1971, at Brush Mountain, 14 miles NW of Roanoke, Virginia (NTSB Report IAD71AI055).

the only accident involving an Aero Commander in Virginia (Roanoke)
was N601JJ a 680E flying VFR into IMC on May 28th.
