Hey folks,

I have tried to attach a picture of a rivet after the penning the head.
You can see its deformation. How much of this is acceptable if any?

Thanks,
Rich Simmons

Rich,

Just my two cents, but I think you’ll be fine.

Everything I’ve read including the RV’s Construction Manual which is much more solid rivet based says that in most cases even an extremely poorly formed solid rivet will provide 95% of the rated strength. In short, you’re talking at worse losing 5% of the strength which is well within the engineered design.

In addition, most folks agree that by the time you remove and reset the rivet that you take a good chance of enlarging the hole. In those cases, even a rivet that appears to be well set but is in a poorly formed hole will be worse than one that looks bad but is in a proper sized hole.

In short, I’d fly with you ☺…

Don
