Hi all,

I need to buy a battery for my aircraft but don't know much about them! A friend recommended the Odyssey battery and I know that some people have fitted them to their Europas.

My question is - which model is suited best to the Europa application? When I googled Odyssey there was a perplexing array of models/ sizes etc available. My friend's one is a PC 680. Is that considered to be a good "all rounder" and suitable for the Europa or are there better, more suited ones available. I don't want to buy the wrong one!

Thanks in advance, Regards,

Jon

Hi Jon

We fitted a PC680 in HI about 3 years ago - it has served us well and would
fit the same again when (if) we have to replace it.

Jon,
I've been using a 680 since my first flight. Other than my own
stupidity of leaving my master on after flying it's been trouble free.

I have the Odyssey PC 680 fitted under the baggage bay in my 914 powered XS.
The 914 relies on electric fuel pumps, so a battery of known capacity is
part of plan B if the Rotax generator or regulator quit.
I modified our Subaru Legacy to use the same battery, and that works well
too. I replace the PC 680 in the plane about every two years and put the
used one in the Subaru for the next two years. By that time the battery is
starting to show weakness during very cold weather cranking in the car,
it's time to swap again.
The PC 680 costs me about 135 bucks delivered here in California, so it's
not the cheapest solution. But at least I feel like I get good service life
out of them.

Are you replacing a battery or is this a new installation?

Kevin

Many thanks for the replies. Sounds like a very good recommendation, question answered!
Regards, Jon
(ps Kevin - it's a new engine installation into an existing (previously flying) plane!)

Hi all,

I used an Odyssey PC545 since two years, and now with 912S, this battery
is perfect. No problem
Good day

We have a classic monowheel with rotax 912 and fitted a Sonnenschein A512 gel battery. The last one lasted about 8 years before replacement. You could probably find one for about £75 inc VAT and shipping.

Good luck.
