Ralph and Gang

When I first started flying I didn't fly in any wind...one time my =
friend Scott Trask came over and wanted to go
flying, and I said "are you crazy", "look how windy it is"!=20
He said what wind? I replied, didn't you see that leaf move!

But seriously:
If you are only going to fly in the local area, I found that watching =
the clouds tells me more than anything; even if it's dead calm on the =
ground but the clouds are moving at a good clip it will not be long =
before it is windy down below.
Sometimes it's the opposite; windy on the ground and calm above, but not =
all winds are bad. I have flown in 20 miles per hour winds but it a was =
a smooth flight.=20

Bill,

I have to agree with you. I used to be in Astronomy and of course, the last thing we wanted was clouds. Clouds are fliers friends because the let us know what the movement of air is way up. Last week I was at my instructors field and the clouds were going in two directions. And where they me was shear. Later in the day, no clouds and the air was stable. I have been loking up and watching the clouds a great deal more since I got into flying than any time before. The weatherman doesn't have anything on us fliers!

Head in the clouds here in Ohio Ralph
