Too late! I did it in 1976 when N400CH was N222AD.
By the way, that aircraft has a neat history of hauling celebrities while it
was owned by AVCO Broadcasting and was was used to support the Phil Donahue
show, in it's early days, in Dayton, Ohio.
My employer purchased it from AVCO and Dick Wartinger and I (yes, I
physicaly did a lot of the work. Since we had nothing to fly) converted it to the Mr.
RPM at his shop (Then Dayton Aviation) and it was the first conversion done
outside of Dick McCoon's shop. I flew it with both types of engines. It was a
great airplane.

Now you've gone and made the AVCO TV jingle get stuck in my brain.....
"Channel 2 in Dayton;
Channel 4 Columbus;
13 is the channel over in Indianapolis (Indiana)
And the whole thing originates live
On Channel 5 Cincinnati Cincinnati O-High-O!"

Actually Donahue was live from WLW-D channel 2 in Dayton.
AVCO was originally the Crosley Brodcasting.
Bob Hope road in N400CH (then N700KC) many times. When he would be picked up
in that airplane he would say to the pilot (Charlie Petro) "well Carlie, I
see you brought the Spad"!
I guess he was use to bigger aircraft.

And of course, 700KC represented the frequency of their flagship station,
WLW Radio, which broadcasts on a frequency of 700KiloCycles.
Of course these days they call kilocycles kilohertz.
While Donohue originated in Dayton (whatever happened to Cassano's Pizza,
anyway?) the other Avco shows like Paul Dixon and Ruth Lyons originated at
channel 5, where that jingle came from.
Didn't Cassano's operate a Commander for a while?

Hi All,
680FLP-1527-24, CF-SNL, N700KC, N222AD, N400CH has an interesting piece of not
exactly trivia!
When it returned from Canada in March 1968, a telegram from Aero Commander to
DoT Canada quoted the aircraft's unit number quite clearly as "-29" and that
number, instead of the correct "-24" has been used in paperwork ever since!!
If the current owner is willing to photograph the serial number plate for me,
I'll be VERY interested in seeing a copy.
With regard to Cassano's Pizza, I can find Cassano Enterprises Inc., in Dayton
on my database.
They purchased 680-505-175, N6348U, on November 12th 1969, jointly with Sandy's
Woodman Drive Inc. On February 3rd 1970, an Application for Registration changed
Sandy's Woodman Drive Inc to Kettle Concepts Inc. The aircraft was sold on
December 16th 1971.
On the previous day, Cassano Enterprises Inc. had purchased Model 680FL, s/n
1640-121. It was sold April 18th 1979.
Very Best Regards,
Barry

Hi again!
I made an error when posting my last message.
Instead of "When it returned from Canada in March 1968", I should have stated
"When exported to Canada in July 1965".
So, apologies for that.
Kindest Regards,
Barry

Cassano's Pizza operated a 680FL N6509V. The Pilots name was Guy Douglas.
Rob Reider, a regular on The Ruth Lyons Show is my air show announcer.
Ex N580M? Which 580M? The 560F or the 681? Frank Woods Sr. was a regular at
our shop.

Berry, N6348U was the first Commander I ever flew (1971). Guy Douglas was
Cassono's Pilot and took me along to go pick up N700KC (the second commander I
ever flew) for some maintenance.
The last time I saw N6509V s/n 1640-121 it was hauling freight. It had a bad
lightning strike while Cassano's had it and last time I saw it the repair
for the entry point was still there, a #10 screw and a faring washer below the
pilots window. They had to change both engines and props and the vertical fin
cap (which blew off!)

That is wright. Another division of AVCO flew it for about 1000 hours before
it was transferred to WLW.

I flew with Frank a lot. In fact I met you once when Frank and I visited
with you (at least I think it was you) you worked at State Farm.
I flew with him on the 560F, 681 690A and his P Baron. I also flew his IFR
Super Cub, (at the time 580LM) and crewed the balloon.
Browse my picture site and you'll see many pictures of my adventures with
Frank. He was my mentor, responsible for my aviation interests and career.
http://homepage.mac.com/deneals/PhotoAlbum7.html
http://homepage.mac.com/deneals/PhotoAlbum9.html
Btw his widow, Mary, passed away last March.
Frank's son doesn't fly himself, but owns a C750 to get around in.
I operated a 690A for a brief time (N80LP), and Dick did our work when he
was in Xenia.
Rob Reider was a friend of a friend who used to fly Learjets for me in the
early 80s. Rob played at my friends wedding, if memory serves me correctly.
The friend unfortunately perished in a Learjet accident in Newark in 1983.
PS if you look at my pictures and see a Commander 112, its one I rented once
from Fliteways, 1215J was based at MGY or whatever they call that airport
now.

Polished aluminum doesn't photograph well. I've tried everything but
prying the plate off with a crowbar and scanning it! I'll send you the
pics, but they won't be very useful. Bottom line, it's just -29. I
have extensive documentation on the airplane, and don't see any
reference to -24.

Hi Brock,
It seems to me that your serial number plate was therefore completed in error.
Serial number 1527 will definitely have been unit number 24 on a 680FLP.
Here are examples of a few 680FLP Models just before and just after your one
and -29:
1507-20 (Certified April 1965)
1509-21
1513-22
1515-23
1527-24 (Certified July 1965)
1599-25
1607-26
1615-27
1623-28
1634-29 (Certified March 1966)
1638-30
1643-31
1651-32 (Certified November 1966)
Sincere Best Regards,
Barry
