|
|
While putting in my new battery I had to take out my gas tanks since my battery is at the back of the cage. I cleaned out the plastic gas tanks but then noticed that the metal fuel thing-a-ma-jig where the gas comes out is really rusted.
I see that jbm industries sells the grommet but who sells the metal thing-a-ma-jig that the grommet goes around?
Next question...how to get it out and back in? There is no way I can reach through the opening of the gas tank to work on it (too small and too far of a reach)...does it just pull out with force through the hole and then force it back in with the new grommet and metal thing-a-ma-jig (yes you can correct me to what it is actually called).
Thanks!

Cristal, This is probably what you have.http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ffelbow.php
[/url]A PITA to remove, especially with the tank in place, more so if the grommet has age hardened. Basically it's an Armstrong removal. Support the area around the grommet as you pull the barbed fitting out so you don't damage the tank. Twisting as you pull helps. Coat the new fitting with some lithium grease when installing.

Just pull it out, when you get it out you will be able to clearly see how the elbow presses the grommet out to seal the fitting.

Cristal
That thing-a-jig is called a in tank elbow in the Lockwood catalog. Grab the elbow with a pair of pliers and twist it while pulling and it will come out. I recommend you get replacements that have the finger strainer and a shut off valve. Be sure to lube the elbow before installing the new elbow in the bushing
Also my ELT remote doesn't have a battery that I know of. I think it is powered by the main unit that my remote is wired to.
