I noticed that the sticker I placed on my instrument panel that shows the expiration date of the battery on my ELT remote control is Dec 2010. I want to replace the batteries before flying again.
The itty-bitty nuts and bolts holding it on the panel are in a difficult place to reach.

Does anyone have one of those remotes for the Ameri-King 406 not installed right now that you can tell me where the battery compartment is on it? I'm feeling for it and can't find it by just feeling. And I looked as far as I could...could only see the underside, and didn't see any battery compartment opening.
Thanks!

I don't recall on mine, thought it was just a switch/reset/test button. I didn't think there were any batteries in it. Are you sure that isn't just a reminder to change the ELT battery?

Cristal,

I am in the very process of installing my ELT today.  I have the Ameri-King AK450.  I don't know
what the difference is between yours and mine, but according my booklet, you're going to have to
pull out the 4 retaining screws and be able to hold the remote unit in your hand.
There are 3 screws on the side of the remore unit.  You need to remove these to have access
to the battery.  The AK-450 uses the Duracell MN1300.

  Hope this helped.

Hi Steve,

Like I told Cristal, I am in the very process of installing the
ELT locator in my MkII today.  Yesterday, when I was reading the installation
manual, I was surprised to find out that there is, indeed a little one
of those flat, round batteries in the remote unit.

Now that Cristal mentioned it, I looked at my AK-450 remote on my workbench.
I've had this ELT for quite a while, and what do you know?  My remote unit's
battery was due to be replaced by NOV 2010!!  Thanks for the heads-up, Cristal.

Cristal, There are three small phillips head screws in the side of the case. There's a 6V Lithium Ion battery in the leg of the "Ell" next to the socket for the line cord coming from the ELT. The case splits down the middle, you have to remove it from the panel to disassemble.

Thank you Rick and Mike. That isn't the news I wanted to hear, but it was what I was expecting. Thanks again!

Steve, everyone,

Now that I think about it, I'll bet that itty-bitty battery's main
function is to light that little red LED on the remote unit.
Yes, the remote unit has a little battery, and yes, it also has an
expiration date.
Now, I'm headed back out to my shop to get it installed...

Yes, my DAR specifically made me label the expiration date for the remote unit.
