Just an update on how my nose Skid Hoop performs...
http://wingsforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=174
It's been called a "monster".....But it works EXACTLY like it's supposed
to.... I'm at a new field, and it doesn't have a flat spot on it....
I Taxi'd to the hanger...after I stopped I tried to get it a little closer....
Up came the tail....It's came up before , but just slightly....This time
it touched the Hoop.....The hoop stopped it before the tail was very high
and when the tail came down, it didn't make you cringe because it didn't
hit that hard.....My Nose cone, Strobe & pitot never touched the ground.
I was going to keep it on during a "training period".....I might just
leave it on....
Yep, got a new home for my bird...Got 3 runways ( crossing each other)
And it's One GIANT , BUMPY , BOWL
Also , Cheap hanger space $45 Folded , otherwise $90 month
Gotta Fly...

Hi John,
I don't really know , I've never flown without it.....It's pretty skinny....I wouldn't think at these speeds that it would effect anything...
I was thinking I could make a better looking one, getting the same clearance but stretching it forward....I've seen some pictures of other peoples like that....
I've lifted the tail too many times not to have "something" up there....
Gotta Fly...

Was at a flyin about 10 years ago in SE NY state when an Original FS showed up with skid protection on his nose pod. Picture attached. Bet he didn't have to add weight to the nose to meet his CG.

Hi Ralph,
Your bird is the one I've seen with the hoop sorta stretched
Forward.... But it looks like the nose would hit at the same time...?
it's unlikely that a wheel is needed up there....when the tail goes up, it's
usually stopped or very slow....
Gotta Fly...

PS MUD flaps....? keeps the mud off the wings ? When I was going thru
my tailwheel endorsement, the Aeronca that I was flying would sling it
all over the wings and tail ....the ground was soggy from snow melt...
