It does give you something to think about until winter's official end. April 15th, when winter and a three letter demon also departs. Money is always a consideration.  Good luck, and hold off as long as you can- others will check in with an opinion.

Dana- Did your friend re-register with the FAA? There was some kind of a cut-off date on that, but I think there is a way around it if you have all the paperwork.

Oddly, I am in the same place kinda. My hanger-mate has a 2-seat Quick,
think a 503, it is n-numbered also. It needs just a few things from sitting
a long time, like tires. Skin looks/feels good but I have not done a punch
test. Has nice instruments, nice pod, parachute.

I was thinking I could fix it up, use it for my flying lessons (have no
license yet), save money over the rental costs, then later sell it (for
profit) or keep it for taking a passenger up.

Down-side is I would have to rent more space for it cuz the wings don't
fold. It would be one more project inserted between now and me getting new
fabric on my Kolb FS 1.

Guys, I learned to fly in a 2 place quick
and did about 90 hours in a single place quick.
The flight school put around 300 hours of training on those Quicks a
year. I saw the gears and axels get bent and replaced in an afternoon and
they would be back in the air.
It was a great way to train to move to the Ultrastar. Could not get any
tail wheel training so I spent about 5 hours on the ground getting use to
the Ultrastar before taking to the air.
I would get in a well maintained Quick in a minute, as I would a well
maintained Kolb.
Wish I could afford to have a Kolb or Quick as a second plane, I think
it's still the lowest cost fun flying you can get.
