Isn't that a 750 in the background on the right? The "claw" ™ in the foreground pulled out.

Posted by Doug Dugger of Quality Sport Planes on zenith.aero: " Hi all just talked to the factory and yes there is damage to some of our aircraft but the good news is no zenith people were hurt. I'm sure Sebastian will make a more in-depth report later. "

Hi Sabrina,

I have not heard any more from the auction or the owner of the XL. The
auction was a disaster between the tornado shutting it down and the poor
agreement between the bidders and sellers about the value of the planes
up for sale.

I think there were a total of two planes actually sold on Thursday
before the weather took over. One was a "Well loved" 310 that sold for
$75K. I spoke to the sellers just after that and they actually had a
$78K reserve but took the $75K price anyway. The other was a Zodiac HD
that was inspected about 7 years ago but never flown. It is a zero time
airframe and zero time Jabiru 2200 in parts on a trailer that got a high
bid of $9K. I doubt it was worth that much unless the engine was still
pickled from the factory. Some planes got no bids at all and many got
bids that were not even interesting to the sellers.

There may have been more planes sold on Wednesday, but I left the
auction site after I made the HIGH bid of $12K on the very nice XL with
80 hours total on a new Jab. 3300 and a well built airframe. There just
isn't much of a market for any airplanes out there right now.

Paul,

Thank you for the photos!

The $12,000 Zodiac is looking pretty happy in its hangar...

Did the owner end up selling it to you as the top bidder or did he keep his reserve in place?
