I am in the market for a 2 place folding wing aircraft.

Will be flown from an unimproved farm field. Cruise speed is of no concern, STOL perf & rough field use are .

What is the general opinion of a Mk3 compared to a Kitfox / Avid ?

Thanks

Hi,
there are planes with better wing fold systems but with big tyres (tires)
the Xtra will take some beating for STOL peformance from a rough field

You might want to take a look at the Highlander from Just Aircraft.
YouTube "Highlander"
or Google "Just Aircraft".

Maybe that's what he was asking.... That is a very fine airplane. There is a fellow locally who built his own with a Jab
and I see no negatives in owning one. It is convertible from nose to tailwheel.

I would have to agree with Ellery on the Kit Fox...they are very small inside and the flapper-on system is not very accommodating in a short field landing as you lose 80% of the ailerons when you drop the flaps...very uncomfortable on a windy day ! I love my M3X/Jabiru airplane !

Good Day

The Highlander is to expensive & very few on used market.

I ask about STOL perf here because very little is said about it here, where as the Fox/flyer forums mention weight, landing & takeoff roll alot.
The early Fox/flyers had wings designed strictly for stol, & latter changed for increased speed. After a year of lurking here I cant remember anyone comparing airfoils in regards to low speed lift.

Hi,

Pat

Is the Fox/flyer folding system better than Kolbs ?
This is important as our shed door is only 15' wide.

Is an Extra a better choice for stol / rough that a Mk3 ?

I have not been in a MK3 , so the comments about more interior room are appreciated.
Better visibility would be a plus to.

Thanks for all comments, keep them coming

The Kitfox wing fold system is probably easier than even the Kolb... just pull the pin at the front strut and fold it back. No strut removal, and no need to fold the tail. I believe it's still within the 8'5" max highway trailer width. It probably also needs less door clearance on top since it's not a high mounted pusher engine. I've never flown one though, gotta hit my buddy up for a ride.
