Guys. Please tell me what rubber channel you are using at the bottom edge of your windshields. The “U” channel sold by ASSCO is all 1/16” slotted. Our 701 acrylic windshields are 1/8” thick. They also an “Open center channel” 05-01500 with a 1/8” slot but it is a “Y” shaped channel and too long. They have other “High quality rubber channel” but again, it's slotted 1/16”. So throw me a bone here……Geoff

Style 5,6 or 7 will all work, Pick the one you like best. On my 801 I not only used the rubber channel trim I fabricated an aluminum strip piece that hid that joint too.

I got mine from Aircraft Spruce. P/N 05-01500. Worked great in sealing
bottom of windshield.

I used body stripe tape on both the 701s I built. Worked fine.

I used some of that trim tape as suggested by Zenith in their plans. I flew
the plane for three years then am now painting it as we speak/type. The
tape looked OK initially but was starting to come off, so I took the bull by
the horns and fiberglassed mine in like the RV builders do. It looks good,
even with my less than perfect construction talents, and will seal really
well and forever. Also, I suspect I will probably gain at least 0.0028057
knots in cruise by doing it. It took me an entire week to do it and sanding
down the fiberglass till it is almost flush with the window and knife edge
thickness is as tedious as brain surgery! Would I do it again?
Probably, but only if I had at least a week of time to kill and I didn't
have a case of "want to get it done and flying as soon as possible" like I
had the first time around.
Just spent 10 hours non stop yesterday cleaning and etching the plane, not
counting a day masking and sealing off the openings and doors the day before
and sprayed primer on it today. Just got done. So far looks good! Using
the Steward waterborn 2 part poyurethane system.
One question regarding rubber strips. Does anyone put them along the
inboard top wing fairings? Someone told me I should do that so the
vibration of the fairings against the plexiglass roof won't wear through.
I don't know if this is right or not, though. In three years of flying
there isn't even a scratch on the plexiglass, except where I screwed up by
dropping things on it, but that’s another "Bob Goofed UP" story!.

Bob, I initially cut rubber strips to go on my wingroot farings but never installed them. The 1/8 inch slot in the rubber was too big and they ended up with some primer overspray on them during painting. Didn't seem worth it once I was done.
I too have not noticed any indication of contact between the faring and the window so I don't plan on installing them. I think the rubber would do more damage to the window than the gap I currently have.

I took a page from Bobkat's book and made a trim piece by laying up fiberglass around the joint between the windscreen and the glareshield/cowl/sides. I'll bridge the seam with vinyl striping tape, then cover it with the trim piece. Will be light, waterproof, and will look reasonably sharp too. Its a good way to go if you have the patience to mess with it. Otherwise, I'd tape it up and go flying...
