HI KIDS.....had a really nice flight in triple 2 last week.  A good friend and long time Commander owner, Jody Madox's father passed away and I was asked to fly over the ceremony in the Commander. But with me would be another 680E, N8448C (I think) and a Fuga jet as well.  The 680E used to belong to TCFG member Al Thalhiemer. It is a great airplane with nice paint in the original factory scheme and colors that it left the factory with. We met up a couple miles from the ceremony and made a great formation fly-by, at least the Commanders did. The jet was a bit ahead of us. Jody has a private strip and I landed back there after the ceremony for lunch with the Jody and about 150 of his friends. Since it is a private strip 20 miles from the nearest town, I was able to, well, have a little Commander fun!! Then an great trip back down the Columbia river stopping at Cascade Locks airport just for fun. The Commander ran great and I had forgotten how much fun it is to fly her "just for fun". I made a promise to fly her more this year!!!!!

In another note, a 500B has been safely flown to Fiji via Hawaii pango-pango. The airplane was prepped for the trip by Morris Kernik, Commander Services and performed perfect, never missing a single beat, according to the pilot.

Barry, I have some pix of 680-322-16 currently registered as N981RA and never to fly again. The FAA has removed her A/W certificate and wont even issue a ferry permit. I will try to send them?? jb

Which air filter gives the best power, I use the "Bracket" element in my 500B. Did the new, higher performance filter come out?

Now, that wouldn't be N620DR that went to Fiji, by any chance? If so, check out this formation arrival shot from a Baron when they came into Fiji:

Hey Brock, where did they board the Failboat? Was it the very loose
"formation" they were flying? Just curious....I didn't watch all 9 min. of
it, just clicked through and watched a little footage of the Commander.

I don't know whether they were formation or not.

Formation would indicate a mutual acceptance of proximity. Based on the
radio chatter, the commander pilot was grudgingly accepting it, but not
willing to join a flight. As in, I'm on a charter, here, and that's
outside my op specs.

I took that as no pre-brief, and therefore incursion on the part of the
beech driver. Couple that with the confusion thus generated with ATC
(multiple A/C in close proximity and not a flight), and I read fail.

I'm open to other interpretations.

I was questioning the impromptu nature of that formation, too. Maybe it was
a good thing that they were not in a formal formation because it was a poor
demonstration of skills if that were the case. However, I still appreciated
the Commander in its natural environment.

I'd be pissed if someone tail-gated me while I was carrying paying
customers. Just a thought.

It was pointed out to me that these guys were flying together for 30 hours
on an ocean-crossing when this video was shot.
I didn't know that.
That explains their camaraderie.
Thanks.
