In the latest issue of Business & Commercial Aviation, I noticed a photo on page 32 of a flat-nacelled Commander (N252LD) sitting at the GA ramp at the Anchorage Airport. Just for fun, I Googled the N-number to see a bit of its history, and found that it had been "substantially damaged" in two separate fuel exhaustion accidents, the first on 8/4/68 in Kennard, TX, and the second on 1/6/77 in Kiowa, CO. Since the B&CA photo is a lot more recent than those two incidents, it would appear that N252LD "took a lickin' and kept on tickin'!"

Stan,
N252LD was one of my Dad's Commanders, and he owned it when it ran out of fuel and went down in Kenard, Texas. They had just had the fuel gauge changed in it and it too was faulty. I have photos of it in the field that night if your interested, send me you email address. I don't think I can post them here. It was later involved in the accident in Colorado, same situation, faulty fuel gauge. As for as I know, it belongs to Mr.Towner as part of his fleet and is now N607MM. Tough Machine.

Hi Stan,
That must be quite an old photo, as it's been with John Towner since March 1992 and was re-Registered as N607MM in September 1992.
As N252LD, it was owned by various parties domiciled in Anchorage, between April 1978 & March 1992.
Very Best Regards,
Barry

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the info! Bert Berry sent me several photos of it taken after the TX incident and two more of it after it had been repainted and reregistered to John Towner. The last photo he sent me was the very same photo as the one in the B&CA article!
BTW, here's a link to the article, complete with the photo in question:

Stan
