Hello fellow Zenith Listers,

Quick question am I missing something in the "B" modification instructions, because I can't seem to recall any mention of what the proper aileron deflection measurements need to be? Are there new ones or do I stick with the old?

Also, regarding of aileron control inputs what should I expect in terms of control feel as of right now the modified set-up seems to be quite a bit stiffer and in need of stronger control inputs: My control harmony before the mods seemed just right or I guess I was used to it. Anyways a penny for anyones's knowledgeable and erudite thoughts.

Hi Jeff,

My take on the aileron question is that they should not have changed at all.  The rear rib (7?) that mounts the aileron bellcrank has been reinforced considerably and the hole in the rear channel has also gained a doubler.  Neither of these structure changes should have an impact on the control stiffness or feedback.  I don't think the aileron deflections changed either.

The ailerons were mass balanced.  I suppose this could make them a little bit easier to move, but I doubt a pilot could detect this from the cockpit.  The ailerons are so huge for this design there is little movement of the stick in the roll direction and easing the task of moving the ailerons with balance bars shouldn't have any impact on the aerodynamic forces that ruled this issue before.

Just finishing up the upgrade.  today I installed the last rivets while reinstalling the center section (spar carry through) in the fuselage.

Hi Jeff--
I've got about 75 hours on the upgrade.  The aileron throw is set to the same as the original. The balanced aileron control inputs do appear to feel a bit stiffer, however, you will adjust to it very easily. The entire feel of the plane is stiffer and more solid.

Jeff, my B model ailerons control and movement are a bit "thicker" and I was surprised because after mass balancing you would think that they should move easier, but they don't. Course my input is substantial because I have pushrods as opposed to cable. It is the best way to move the ailerons. Bill of Georgia

you have them set, and they are a bit stif at cruise. the suggested way to lighten the load force would be to insert spades. you have to do the math to make sure you dont make them too big.

the best thing is to check cable tension as they may be too tight.
