Hi Folks:

Things are going well and I am feeling a little bit spry again. If fact,
spry enough to load up the mkIII and fly out to Larry Cottrell's Rock House
for a spell. If all goes well, I'll be landing at the Rock House Airstrip
between the middle and the end of May 2011. Haven't pinned down my exact
route of flight, but that will come as take off time comes. I'll sit here
and wait out the best wind and weather window in order to make my flight as
easy on me as I can. I did pretty good on the flight to, the stay at, and
the return flight from Sun and Fun this year. I think if I take my time I
can have an enjoyable flight back out to the part of the country I really
like flying in, the West!

Here are a couple of photos that were taken by John Williamson several years
ago. Both of them were taken at the Rock House, one at the south end of the
airstrip and the other over the Alvord Desert. We have had some good times
flying out of the Rock House. I look forward to many, many more good
flights out there.

I added another photo of John W over the Alvord, one of my favorites.

Joerg (Vari-Eze) and I (Waiex) will be headed west on May 23-29. Our planned route is Atlanta, Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, Mojave, Catalina Island, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Atlanta. Let's keep in touch. Maybe we will cross paths... Very Happy

If I go the southern route, I'll be flying just south of Amarillo and
Albuquerque, then to Gallup and north.

I'll keep an eye out for you all.

If I remember right you had built a larger fuel tank for your Mark 111. I would like more information as I am getting ready to increase mine also to two 10 gal tanks behind the seats. One of my main concerns is the w/b.

Hi:

Who am I talking to?

Weight and balance was not a problem for my mkIII with a full 25 gal fuel
tank behind the bulkhead.

Only info I have is:

-25 gal ultimate

-.050" 5052 aluminum sheet

-Cross baffled.

-Welded up in the shape of the inside of the upper rear area of the
fuselage.

i have the 16 gal alum tank that is mounted where the 2, 5 gal tanks would have fit.

when flying solo,,, my W&B is near the rear cg limit,,,,,, the center of gravity for the fuel tank is also at the rear cg limit... so from full to empty tanks when flying solo the cg does not change enough to notice,,,, with two on board,, the cg is further forward,,, so from full to empty tanks the cg moves forward as the tank empties.

your mileage may vary.
