Juergen,

The stainless steel braided hose originally supplied with the kit, has been notorious for craking, leaking etc... In your case I would replace ALL flexible fuel lines. Note that the general rule is to replace rubber hose every 5 years.

On my aircraft I am using GATES 3225 automotive fuel lines. I replaced them last year after 5 years and found them to be in very good shape.

I'm wondering if this recommendation applies to the R9 hose w/ the blue teflon lining...(?)

the five years expire this June and after all that trouble I will surely replace all the hoses.

The steel braided hose before and after the electrical pump is grounded so I wonder this is necessary for a good reason and they canÂ´t be replaced by all rubber hoses.

Reading about all the problems concerning flexible hoses I ask my self if it would not be better to use tubes ( aluminum or copper ).

This Sunday I will replace all my fuel hoses.

I don't know the official answer to that, Fred, but I suspect the five year limit is because it is not possible to inspect the inside of a rubber hose. Of course, you can inspect the outer sheath for enbrittlement and cracking.  If I had a teflon lined hose I would be inclined to visually inspect it rather than change every five years, but that is just my opinion.

Well if it helps I replaced all my hoses after 5 years.  I used Gates Fuel Injection hose for the original installation and they seemed in perfect condition when I replaced them.



I never did use the metal braided hose that came with the kit, by the time I got to that part of the build there was enough evidence around to suggest that they were not fit for purpose.

Problem solved!



Yesterday I replaced all fuel hoses and had my first planed landing for weeks.

Today I cut the replaced hose all the length from the electrical pump to the mechanical pump and found a desquamation that worked like a valve, closing when the fuel flow was high.

Fine but some questions remain:



The restrictor int the return line was not absent as the mechanics supposed but the ordered one from Europa Aircraft is so much tighter than the one once delivered with the kit. The hole in the first one is about 2mm and the new one is 0,2mm!

Now with the tighter restrictor I achieve a bit more than 0,2bar fuel pressure in the full power setting.

I never had a working fuel pressure gage till now so I do not know what the pressure was with the original restrictor.

What kind of restrictor do you have installed and how high is your fuel pressure?

I haven't been watching your messages but can't help wondering when you say

"tighter"? Surely you are fixing the restrictor in the pipe with a jubilee

clip to clamp it in place?

think it is only a problem with the phraseology.

The restrictor that came with the kit has been screed ( or glued ) into the T-peace of the return line. The hole in this ristictor is about 2mm.

The restrictor I ordered last week from Europa Aircraft is a single part that has to be secured by a clamped in the hose of the return line. This restrictor has got a hole ( ore better "bore"? ) of about 0,2mm. ThatÂ´s what I  mean with "tighter". (not to promote impure thoughts........).

Juergen,

The diameter of restrictor supplied by Europa is 0.7 mm. In their  

Install Manual Rotax recommand 0.35 mm. I have tried both  and now  

have 0.5 which seems to be a good compromise between enough pressure  

and enough return flow. I also found that the smaller diameter gets  

plugged from time to time. You will have this problem with 0.2 for  

sure. My typical fuel pressure at cruise with the electrical pump  

turned off is 3 to 4 PSI which is in the middle of the range specified  

by Rotax.
