Planning on listing it on ebay Sunday evening, but thought I'd offer it to the grummanites who have been talking about it so much.

It comes with the box and the wall charger. It also comes with a screen protector that folds away leaving a tilt support that is pretty cool. ($30 accessory.)

It has some aps on it he paid for, but he said he can restore it to factory settings if you prefer that.

They are bringing around $640 without the screen protector on eBay plus shipping. First email willing to pay $600 for all of it including shipping UPS ground gets it.

Hey Claude,

I just did a little test with it. Connected via wifi to Colin's Droid it located us against a google road map. Turned off the wifi on the phone, and got the warning on the ipad that the connection to the internet was lost. But the map was still there, and I was still located on the map. So I walked to the end of the road and it moved with me, so there apparently is a gps  built into the unit.

He does not have a separate data plan for the ipad. He either connects on a wifi that it finds or he connects via his phone thru wifi.

He says it won't update the map if you leave it unless it is internet connected. I don't know how that would apply to map subscriptions or whatever for use in the air.

Have you used yours at altitude? I have the same phone and tend to lose cell coverage above 5000' agl, and lose 3g and 1X by the time I hit 8000' agl. I'm wondering if a 3g ipad would stay connected when a wifi ipad connecting via cell phone would drop out.

no, the gps in the ipad is a true gps, unlike the one in an iphone. My daughter, who flys a Lear 35 uses hers up to 41000 ft! If you have a 3GS model, you do not need to have a paid 3G subscription ($25 a month) for the GPS to work. If it is a 3G Ipad, DL Foreflight ($70 a year) and never buy another chart or plate. Then buy it from your son. You do not have to be connected to the internet via 3G or Wifi, as Foreflight is DL to the ipad. Google maps and programs like them must have an internet connection to function. The built in app "Maps" will function without an internet connection if your ipad is indeed a 3G model.

No, the GPS in the iPhone 3G and later IS a true GPS, but the iPad only has a true gps chip if you have the 3G version. You don't need an active data plan to use that GPS chip, though.
However, a non-3G iPad will still approximate its location using wifi triangulation, just not as accurately as GPS. The best way to tell if you have the gps model is to look at the part number and compare it to those at store.apple.com.
