For those interested, John is still holed up in Neosho waiting out the weather. The storm passed 20 miles away from him, but Pfer is in a old hanger and every thing is safe. He says it may take until Thursday before he can get a window out.

Good to hear he is safe. I'm listening to reports of the current storm situation in the area. Keep your head down, John.

John just called on the radio, he is 50 miles East, and closing fast. He has a tail wind for a change.

I think he may want to sit a spell. Must have gotten at least two years flying time in that trip.
For the rest of us, here's a question: in your airplane (Kolb indeed) if you get a quick uplift thermal,
how does your attitude end up at the top of the puff? Nose high? level? nose down?
To be honest I'm not sure which way mine reacts but I do remember having to jockey the stick around a bit
to stay within a reasonable airspeed.
John must have been churning a few tubs of butter during some of his trip.

Bob,
I am not aware that my Firestar does anything other than stay in the same attitude. When I was first learning to fly mine, I came over a ridge that was experiencing "upslope winds". I was holding 600 feet above the rim to give myself some maneuvering room. I went from 600 feet to more than 1500 feet in less time that it takes to write this. The planes attitude was the same, but my shorts never were again.
Here are some pics of John's arrival.

Dennis T/Gang:
I feel more like a hiker than a flyer this trip.
Normally, a flight from Alabama to Fairbanks, AK, takes me 7 days. This flight took 11.
In 2001, I flew from Alabama to Point Barrow, AK, back to Oroville, WA, then Oshkosh, WI (spent a week at OSH), and back to Alabama in exactly 30 days.
My flight to the Rock House was a long one, but I still had fun and was able to experience some beautiful country and meet some really nice folks along the way.
Yesterday, my last two legs were over total wilderness for more than 300 miles, between Brigham City, UT, and the Rock House. I stopped at the only civilization in between, Jack Pot, NV, for lunch. At 10,500 feet over the snow covered mountains, makes one feel pretty small in their little Kolb airplane.

You got that right. No one starves at the Rock House.
And yes, I had some lousy chow during this flight.
Glad I got here yesterday. Today is cold, grey, and extremely windy out of the wrong direction.
