We have 285 hp HS-6A engine in after first time overhauled condition, that is, TSO is 0 time.

Unit price is USD 24616  for first time overhauled condition based on FOB Xi'an with log books.

Very true Bear, but add on exhaust, gill shutters (maybe), prop, engine mount and misc electrics............and yes I do have an M-14 sitting as a spare! Anyone got any gill shutters?



Also, Housai logs from China, real deal, I'd be skeptical. Just me.



And I do believe that FOB is not included in that price. I tried to get a 15 dollar bolt shipped from them and it was over 35 bucks. I see these people hit this list all the time. Has anyone actually bought anything from them?

Oh trust me, I know the cost to upgrade to the M14P.  



However, if the delta is really only Exhaust (1.8-2k), Gill shutters

(1.2-1.5k), Prop (4k-15k), and some misc. then the upgrade becomes "more"

reasonable.  If the delta includes 10k for the engine and the rest, then it

is "less" reasonable.   



No offense to anyone on the list.  I can see a Housai (new) being 18k, or

1st OH being 12-14k.  But if I'm paying over 20k I'd go with the M14P.

MNSHO (my not so humble opinion)



Still very glad I upgraded, and feel that way every flight.

If I could get a new Housai tomorrow for 18K I'd cash in my 401K and buy as many as I could!!



I think the bigger issue is (and part of the reason I got mine) is the fact that there is a least one company and maybe two that are in place to do a full overhaul of the M-14 here in the US. 



On the flip side the M-14 seems to require more maintenance than the Housai from what I've seen with the guys we fly with

Housai?

Top overhauls on Housais can be done in the U.S. (I had a great experience getting a cylinder overhauled) and I believe someone is looking at a pipeline to get the bottom-end done in China since the cost of Housais is now high enough to warrant fixing them.

I asked Barrett about overhauling Housais and he said they were concentrating on M-14s but would consider it in the future.
